Every year, our sales reps here at Virginia Business Systems meet with thousands of business owners to talk about their unique business challenges and how to best solve them. In the course of these discussions, we inevitably hear about our local competitors, or we see their devices. Being the “Honest Brokers” that we are, we are sometimes asked about the competition in the Central Virginia area for copier sales and service.
We have several worthy competitors in the Document Technology market space, and we are not afraid to talk about them!
Cobb Technologies was founded in Richmond nearly 30 years ago by Charlie Cobb. The staff at Cobb includes several industry veterans from Xerox, IKON, and Ricoh.
Cobb represents the Konica Minolta, Canon, and Kyocera MFP brands. Cobb also offers a full line of IT and Managed Services solutions.
Stone’s Office Equipment has been in business since 1970 and has its headquarters in Richmond, and an office in Fredericksburg, Virginia. SOE has a reputation for individualized service.
Stone’s sells Sharp and Lexmark devices.
Based in Virginia Beach, ESI is a wholly owned subsidiary of Xerox Business Systems and has been in business since 1980.
ESI represents the Xerox and HP lines of equipment and document management software, and offers a variety of document technology and professional services solutions.
Southern Copier was founded in 1992 and is headquartered in Ashland, Virginia. Southern Copier sells Konica Minolta and Okidata products.
Offix has been in business for over 20 years and is headquartered in Gainesville, Virginia. Offix sells Canon, Sharp, HP, and Oce. Offix also has locations in Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia.
There are also a couple of newcomers to the Central Virginia document technologies business:
Centric is based in Owings Mills, Maryland outside of Baltimore and they have locations throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Centric offers products from Ricoh, Sharp, and HP. They acquired Webster Integrated Technologies (“WIT”) in 2018, and now have offices in Ashland and the Innsbrook area in Henrico County.
COECO has its headquarters in Rocky Mount, NC and was originally founded as a commercial printing company in 1921. COECO deals in Canon, Sharp, Xerox, and Konica Minolta. COECO has offices in Richmond and Virginia Beach.
These are the seven main copier and document technology companies along with Virginia Business Systems that operate in the Central Virginia area and the surrounding regions.
